Curently we have nothing new to report on the 2006-2008 Collective Agreement. The Nominees and the Arbitrator have not met as of yet for Executive sessions. Hopefully they will do so soon and get the award out as quickly as possible. However, there is no time frame.

Hamilton Professional firefighter Robert Walker, an eighteen year veteran of the Hamilton Fire Department, will be in attendance at Queens Park on Friday January 18, 2008 to receive the Ontario Medal for Firefighter Bravery. The Honourable David C. Onley, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, and Community Safety and Correctional Services Minister Rick Bartolucci will be in attendance to recognize 22 Ontario firefighters and police officers for their acts of exceptional bravery and courage.
On December 14, 2006, while off duty, Firefighter Walker came upon a head-on motor vehicle collision on Osler Drive in Dundas. He stopped at the scene and was informed by bystanders of a victim trapped in a car that had now caught fire. Firefighter Walker entered the burning vehicle and found that the passenger compartment was filling with smoke and flames were impinging on the trapped and unconscious female driver. He was able to free the driver from the collision damage and remove her from the vehicle through the rear door. With the assistance of another citizen, they carried the woman to a safe location away from the burning vehicle. Firefighter Walker assessed the driver as being vital signs absent and initiated cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on the driver until he was relieved by Emergency Medical Services paramedics. Unfortunately, the driver of this vehicle succumbed to her injuries.
On behalf of all of the Hamilton Professional Fire Fighters, the Executive Committee would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Brother Rob Walker on being awarded the Ontario Medal for Firefighting Bravery. Brother Walkers actions went above and beyond the normal call of duty and is indicative of what fire fighters do.
