Outside Fire Fighters working in Hamilton
A fire protection company called First Unit Fire and Safety has been working in the City of Hamilton on movie shoots and television series. This company is owned and operated by two Toronto I.A.F.F. 3888 Members and employs numerous other professional fire fighters. A letter has been sent to Toronto President Scott Marks asking for assistance to get these individuals to cease and desist from this action which violates the I.A.F.F Constitution and the contracting out provisions of our collective agreement.

New Transfer Policy
In order to fill the vacancies created by moving Station 24 to a 24/7 service and the first part of the filling of Station 20, a new transfer policy has been created. It is important for all Suppression Members to familiarize themselves with the new policy and make your decision in the appropriate timeframes. Below is the policy as set down by Administration in consultation with the Association.
Mandatory Retirement
The Executive Committee met with the Corporation on July 18th, at mediation, to try and resolve the Association’s grievance regarding the Corporations failure to accommodate a member from suppression in another division who had reached age 60.The Corporation sought agreement from the Association to bring back the member to the suppression division.
The Association steadfastly maintained its position that the member should be brought back in a division other than suppression.
The Corporation has made a unilateral decision to return the individual to the suppression division, contingent on the passing of a physical fitness examination at York University.
The appropriate grievances have been filed and the matter is ongoing.
