The annual Sirens for Life blood donor campaign hosted by Canadian Blood Services is underway for 2019! On June 27, representatives from HPFFA Local 288, Hamilton Fire Department, Hamilton Police Service and Hamilton Paramedic Service came together to officially kick-off this July 1st to September 2nd campaign by promoting and donating blood.
Every year, First Responders in municipalities across Canada participate in a friendly competition to see who can recruit the most blood donors during the campaign.
Special guests at the 35 Stone Church location included:
Stan Double – President, HPFFA Local 288
David Cunliffe – Chief, Hamilton Fire Department
Dan Milovanovic – Assistant Deputy Chief, Hamilton Fire Department
Carla MacDonald – Assistant Deputy Chief, Hamilton Fire Department
Frank Bergen – Deputy Chief, Hamilton Police Service
Michael Sanderson – Chief, Hamilton Paramedic Services
David Thompson – Hamilton Paramedic Services
Kimberly Martin – Canadian Blood Services
Simrat Deol – Canadian Blood Services
With only 4% of eligible Canadians donating blood, combined with the busy summer months and increased accidents, the need for blood becomes a precarious game of balancing high volume need with low blood donor turnout. Canadian Blood Services relies on First Responders to work together, recruit, donate and make a difference for those who need it most.
Help your local Hamilton First Responders. Please call 1-888-2-DONATE or visit www.blood.ca to make an appointment. You don’t have to be a First Responder to donate for the campaign. Support your favourite police officer, paramedic, firefighter, dispatcher, fire prevention officer…. today. When you donate blood, you save a life! #BEaHERO #SAVEaLIFE
